Last night I was flipping through channels and came across the timeless 1950 classic film Sunset Boulevard. It follows the story of a fading silent movie star named Nora Desmond (Gloria Swanson) who dreams of a return to the movies. She meets a writer (William Holden) and pulls him into her world of fantasy. This is one of those films I can watch over and over again, each time enjoying it as if it is the first time that I have ever seen it. Gloria Swanson and William Holden were both great in their roles and worked so well together. Erich von Stroheim was wonderful as Max, the butler and Desmond’s first husband. Sunset Boulevard was nominated for eleven Academy Awards and won three.
