Classic scene from the 1938 film You Can’t Take It With You starring Jean Arthur, Lionel Barrymore, James Stewart, and Edward Arnold. It follows the story of Alice Sycamore (Jean Arthur) and Tony Kirby (James Stewart) who fall in love. The Sycamore family is decidedly eccentric, while the Kirby family consists of rich snobs. In this funny scene, Jean and Tony are dining when Jean screams and Tony proclaims he saw a rat “with hair on it” causing chaos in the restaurant. The film received two Academy Awards for Best Picture and Best Director for Frank Capra.
