King of the Zombies is a 1941 horror comedy film starring Dick Purcell, Joan Woodbury, and Mantan Moreland. It tells the story of three travelers on a plane running low on fuel and blown off course during a storm forced to make a landing on a small island. Once there, they take shelter in a mansion owned by a doctor and soon become convinced that the mansion is haunted by zombies and ghosts. They soon find out the secret that the doctor is hiding in the cellar as he is trying to acquire war intelligence by turning people into zombies. The tagline for this film was “ARE YOU A ZOMBIE? If you can sit through this spine-tingling carnival of shrieks and howls without getting the thrill of a lifetime…you must belong to the living dead!” It was released on May 14, 1941.
