Forbidden Planet is a 1956 science fiction film starring Walter Pidgeon, Anne Francis, Leslie Nielsen, Warren Stevens, Jack Kelly, and Robby the Robot. It tells the story of a starship crew sent to investigate the fate of a group of scientists that went to a distant planet named Altair IV 20 years earlier. Once there, the crew discovers that only two survivors, Dr. Morbius and his daughter Altaira, remain. Unknown to them, Dr. Morbius has a deep secret that he refuses to share with anyone.
This film was produced by MGM and was filmed in Eastmancolor and CinemaScope. The official release date was on March 15, 1956. It was entered into the Library of Congress’ National Film Registry in 2013, being deemed “culturally, historically, or aesthetically significant.”
